We’re finally headed into 2025, which means many people are making New Year’s resolutions. Because so many of us lead sedentary lifestyles due to our jobs, studies, and other time-consuming occupations, some of the most frequent resolutions involve fitness. There’s a problem with a lot of these resolutions, though– they never end up being met. In many cases, people make unclear resolutions without a well-defined goal in mind, and end up abandoning it almost immediately. To remedy this problem, it helps to target a specific part of your fitness journey, and use established goalposts to determine whether or not you’ve met your goal. This can be challenging to do, so we’re here to help! Here are a few great fitness challenges you can try this year to get in shape and stay in shape!
Join Online Fitness Programs

Many people have yet to commit to a fitness routine because of difficulties involved with accessing gyms or fitness communities. After all, if you don’t live anywhere close to a fitness center, it’s much more difficult to stay in shape. In 2025, though, it’s looking more and more like those concerns are becoming a thing of the past. Nowadays, there are a variety of fitness programs that can be accessed online, and they provide many of the same benefits as conventional programs, all from the comfort of your own home.
You can find several such programs online, both paid and free. In addition, you can join communities centered around these online programs. These communities are a great way to get workout tips, inspiration, and motivation to keep going when the going gets tough.
Take On a Diet Challenge
Before you can start improving your fitness routine, though, you need to focus on your diet. After all, what goes in determines what comes out. If you’re eating nothing but chips and soda all day, you’re not going to have the energy you need to meet your 2025 fitness goals. The best place to start is naturally with your diet. Suddenly overhauling your diet is difficult, though, and very few people actually stick with the changes they make in such a sudden approach. Instead, try challenging yourself to eat healthier in short bursts.
For example, instead of taking a drastic step like cutting added sugar out of your diet entirely, forgo foods with added sugar for a week. Rather than thinking about all the foods you can never have again, you can just remind yourself that you only have to stick with it for a week. Eventually, though, this will help you to master your impulses, tell your body when it does and does not need junk food, and reduce cravings for unhealthy foods. As a result, you’ll feel better, have more energy for your workouts, and will have a much easier time reaching your weight and fitness goals overall.
Create a Cardio Schedule (And Stick to It!)

It’s easy to get caught up in the hype of New Year’s resolutions and make a lofty goal like daily runs for the entire year. This may seem doable in the moment, but once you get down to it, you may find yourself overwhelmed and simply give up. While regular cardio is a great fitness challenge, it can be difficult to stick to. We recommend starting small, and establishing a schedule.
For example, instead of saying you’ll run every day, try saying you’re going to go for a one-mile run every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday before work. This creates much more structure and sustainability for your fitness plans. First of all, you have time to recover from the previous day’s run before going out on another, reducing risk of injury. Second, you have a specific distance you want to run, specific days you want to run on, and a specific time frame in which you’re going to go on your runs. This gives you accountability and makes you much more likely to actually get out there and achieve your goals.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that it’ll be easy to maintain your cardio schedule. There will absolutely be days where you would rather snooze the alarm clock, get a bit of extra sleep, and let your workout routine go by the wayside. As tempting as this may be, though, you have to fight through it if you want to meet your fitness goals. Even though it’ll be tough, the benefits to your strength, health, and energy levels in the coming year will make it all worthwhile.
